Nonpharmacological Interventions for Pediatric Migraine: A Network Meta-analysis

CONTEXT: Migraine is a common neurologic disorder in children and adolescents. However, comparison of multiple nonpharmacological treatments lacking. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether are more effective than waiting list there differences between interventions regarding efficacy. DATA SOURCES: Systematic review network meta-analysis studies Medline, Cochrane, Embase, PsycINFO published through August 5, 2019. STUDY SELECTION: Randomized controlled trials adolescents diagnosed with episodic migraine. EXTRACTION: Effect sizes, calculated as standardized mean (SMDs) for the primary outcome efficacy, were assessed random-effects model. RESULTS: Twelve (N = 576) included. When classified into groups on basis similarity treatment components, self-administered treatments, biofeedback, relaxation, psychological placebos significantly effect sizes ranging SMD 1.14 (95% confidence interval, 0.09 to 2.19) long-term 1.44 0.26 2.62) short-term treatments. when all examined individually (ie, 1 node per intervention), none compared list, mainly because lack statistical power.
